Butterfly Works' existing legal documents were complex, textual and difficult to understand. We recreated the assignment agreement and made the document more accessible and inclusive.
The new contract was easier for the freelancers to understand and reduced the likelihood of misunderstandings and disputes. In addition, the visually appealing design and use of plain language made the contract more attractive and easier to remember, increasing the freelancers' commitment to the project.

The optimization of the freelance agreement at Butterfly Works demonstrates the impact legal design can have in making contracts more accessible and user-friendly.
The new contract was well received by both the foundation and the freelancers and helped reduce the likelihood of misunderstandings and disputes. The project highlights the importance of a people-centered approach when designing legal documents and the positive impact it can have when working with in-country partners in the development sector.
